India is facing psedo shortage of doctors

The shortage of Allopathic doctors is not due to unavailability but due to working conditions ,security and Dignity.

Ayush Practitioners are allowed to practice Allopathic medicine. We can termed it as deregulation of allopathic medical practice .

India produces more than 50,000 allopathic doctors per year, but the public health system has only 100,000 existing posts for (total posts) employment of doctors. There is a deficiency. As per Rural Health Statistics-2015 published by (MOHFW), Government of India, the shortfall of allopathic doctors in PHCs was 11.9% of the total requirement for existing infrastructure.

In our view the real problem is not nonavailability of MBBS doctors but recruiting them and giving an atmosphere to retain them. Legalizing cross-pathy and making AYUSH which also includes Homeopathy or Yoga graduates to practice Allopathy in the name of meeting shortage of allopathic doctors in rural UP/India will only compound and complicate medical problems. we can call this as a shortcut, short-sighted sightless, “stitch and suture” policy, that is cross pathy.

As a Medical Officer posted in rural area for so many years I can suggest for retention and to attract more MBBS doctors to join PHCs and CHCs

  1. Security Issue : Magisterial power to Medical Superintendent so that he/she can handle the miscreants.
  2. Simplified rules for Arm licence to Medical Officers.
  3. Specialization after 5 yrs through seniority, it will also fill the gap of specialist doctors and will also solve the problem of AVAILABILITY.
  4. Fixed duty hours /optional NPA as we all work 24*7 and the work load is too much with immense pressure.
  5. Rural Allowance.
  6. Proper infrastructure for residential purpose.
  7. Local paramedical/Clerical staff should not be there (as they indulge in rural politics and made living tough) and there post should be fulfilled and transfer policy for them after 5 yrs.

We think that by implementing and solving our grievances and getting good atmosphere to work with proper appraisal system ,the more Allopathic doctors will join the PMS as We are proudly producing largest number of Allopathic doctors.
